RECALLS OF UK MOTORS

Volvo

A report on the BBC's Watchdog programme has warned of possible problems with the electronic throttle systems (ETS) installed on the Volvo C70 and V70.

The show featured three owners whose cars had experienced rough running and sudden losses of power.

Volvo has responded by saying that it was aware of ETS faults on some models but said that safety was in no way compromised.

Any possible fault can be resolved by cleaning or changing the electronic throttle said Volvo, and that anyone who had experienced a fault should get in touch.

The company would be making free software available to fix the potential fault in April, it added.

One owner has alleged that he was charged £650 for a replacement ETS.

"Cars with ETS-related problems can display a variety of symptoms such as warning/check lights illuminating, the engine may idle unevenly or the car can go into 'limp mode,'" said a Volvo UK spokesman.

"In the latter circumstance the vehicle's speed will be limited but the car can be driven to a place of safety," he added.
